Brieanna Maple dreams of pursuing basketball as a professional career. “There is no Plan B. Only a Plan A,” the 18 year old scholarship student at Sullivan County College said. Her father gave her a basketball as a gift when she was three years old, shortly before he passed away. A few weeks ago, Brieanna’s 38 year old aunt Jasmine Figueroa was shot six times and killed by her boyfriend, which was a tragedy for her family. Basketball provides a means for Brieanna to stay close to her late father and to cope with her aunt’s death.“To me, the gym is peace of mind,” she said and referred to her father as her long life twin.
